NHS East Genomics is recruiting patients, carers and family members with experience of genomic or genetic testing to join their Patient and Public Voice (PPV) Panel. If you live in the East Midlands or East of England, this is a chance to help shape how genomic services are developed and delivered across the region.

What is the PPV Panel?

East Genomics is the NHS Genomic Medicine Service covering the East Midlands and East of England. As genomic testing becomes a bigger part of NHS care — from diagnosing rare diseases to guiding cancer treatment — the service wants to make sure that patient and public perspectives are woven into everything it does.

The PPV Panel brings together people with lived experience of genetic or genomic testing to work alongside clinical and operational teams. Panel members give a few hours a month (with expenses paid) and contribute in several ways:

  • sharing experience and insights on projects and clinical pathways

  • co-producing communications, patient information and resources

  • helping ensure services reflect what matters most to patients, families and carers

Who can apply?

Applications are welcome from anyone who has personal experience of genomic or genetic testing on the NHS, whether for themselves or someone they care for. East Genomics is particularly keen to build a panel that reflects the diversity of the communities it serves, so people from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

How to get involved

You can find out more about the role, and apply, on the East Genomics website. If you would like to discuss the role before applying, please email Communications and PPI Lead Ian Kingsbury: i.kingsbury@nhs.net

Why this matters for the Lynch syndrome community

Many people in the Lynch syndrome community have direct experience of genetic testing through the NHS — whether through diagnostic testing, predictive testing for family members, or cascade screening. That experience is incredibly valuable. Joining a panel like this is one way to make sure the services that matter to our community continue to improve.
