In an upcoming research project, Dr Mia Burleigh and colleagues at the University of the West of Scotland are developing a study to explore how personalised exercise may influence the oral–gut microbiome, metabolism, and inflammation in people with Lynch syndrome.
Recent research has shown that exercise can improve outcomes for people with colorectal cancer, but the biological mechanisms driving these benefits remain unclear, particularly in those with inherited cancer risk such as Lynch syndrome. This work aims to uncover how exercise may support gut and overall health by examining links between microbes, metabolic pathways and inflammation.
Dr Mia Burleigh said ‘We’re excited to be working with Lynch Syndrome UK as the research develops to ensure it reflects the needs and priorities of the LS community.’

During this early consultation phase, the team are inviting views from the Lynch syndrome community through a short questionnaire to help shape the study design.
